Hi,
I've read your blog a few times, some of the things you have written about have really hit home. I want to share a seminary story with you. I don't know the name of the seminary, but I'm trying to find out.
A girl from my community got accepted to a real frummy place. Although her parents have very little money and a bunch of kids, if they want their daughter to get a shidduch with a learner, they have no choice but to send her to a $15,000 a year seminary. Right?
Anyway, she gets to Israel, and the first thing that happens is the head "Rabbi" takes away her passport and tells her that if she wants to leave the country, her parents better send the rest of the money immediately. Apparently. her parents could not pay the $15,000 in one shot, and thought they could pay the rest out over the course of the year. Sounds reasonable right? Wrong!
The girls father had a fit, spoke to the local rabbonim, and decided to borrow or do whatever he had to do to send the rest of the money asap. They sent the money, the girl got her passport, and she had a wonderful year in seminary learning that she's going have to work the rest of her life to support someone in kollel, or work he decides that if he wants to make some real money he had better open up a seminary and hold girls hostage. Pretty sickening isn't it?
Have a great shabbos.

If the storys true? It was never varified, and the person doesn't even the name the seminary. What a lame story that has not been varified? We don't even know it happened just because someone says it did doesn't mean it did.lets stick with whole truths, not half truths?
It's incredible how people can't spell. A typo here and there is expected, but when verified turns into "varified" it's no laughing matter. It's alway the ignorant ones that deny the obvious.
Be extremely carefull where you send your kids, especially daughters.
seminaries should not:
(1) Ask the girls to do free babysitting for the rebbezins in the name of chesed.
(2) Ask the girls to wash their rabbis rebbetzins floors or any clean up for the rebbetzins in the name of chesed. Its the rabbis responsibility to clean for his rebbetzin.
(3) no brainwashing for the kollel lifestyle, its not for everyone.Kollel woman go through alot, G-d bless them.No fairy tales about kollel life.
(4)Seminaries should be run by woman.
A while back there were accusations that a frum person commited murder.
I remember hearing a rov of prominence say," the mere fact that someone in the frum community can be "accused" of such a heinous crime was bad enough, even though it may be not true."
Someone being accused of witholding a child's passport for money, who is in a leadership position, is bad enough for me.
I know that these TYPE of things go on in schools, I call it blackmail.
Hey detective, Don't lik mi speling.I recent de implikasions
that i kant spel. who ar u a prfreccor or somting.Get a liphe
seminaries are a business like any other.
The girls have no chiyuv in talmud toireh so the owners deserve sechar b'tayla.
The owners take what the market will bear. If the parents shell out and the girl needs her year or two in eretz yisroel, who's complaining? Don't send your kid.
Beacause some guy who you dont kow emailed you , you believe it!!!!??
If the owners are scumbags and opportunists, they should be pimping in Manhattan, not running seminaries.
UOJ

everyone is interested.
Is what they say true? Satmar men have more fun?
Although i think seminary in Israel is a wonderfull way to waste money, if someone wants to give their daughter the opportunity to waste $20,000 of their hard earned money, that's their business.
HOWEVER, if someone would hold my daughter's passport hotage, I'd be on the next plane to Israel.
Let's see how tough one of these "rabbis" are close up and personal.
There is this dog who run's a place called Hadar. If she is such an idealist she should take the girls for free
A similar thing happened to a friend of mine in Israel. The best thing to do is teach your daughters to stand up for themselves, and to tell you when something fishy is going on. Worked for me in seminary, and I was there to help my friends out too.
All of the Seminaries for chutz ka'aretz girls, with the possible exception of one run by the sochnut, are private businesses.
As with any other private business, make your financial arrangements in advance. Pathmark will not let you out the door until you have arranged to pay for your groceries. Bloomingdales will not let you take home their clothes until you have paid.
So too when you go to the sephorim store or the mezuzza store.
He should not have taken her passport, but the parents should not have sent their daughter without making arrangements.
ur all being really lame!!! i just spent a year in israel in seminary and if i could i would go back!!! yeah everything costs money... shoot have u seen the accomodations. some seminaries have really nice facilities... they also have dorm counselors, dorm families, adn teachers... when we pay for sem we pay for all of that plus our food, toilet paper, cleaning products all our trips wich there were alot of and a bunch of other stuff. yeah it is a bussiness but so is every other jewish school. btw the story, i dont know if its true but not ever school is like that. i was never pressured to marry a guy who sits and learns... i never had my passport taken awa and i still havent finished paying!! infact i still owe like 10 thousand!! they know they will get it when i have it and thats the it. also just for like wtvr look at most of the girls b4 they go and when they come back. seminary is a good thing for a lot of girls
